Who We Work Best With

Our clients are people who:

  • Find great value in establishing a long-term relationship of trust with a planner who takes a lead role in their financial planning process, and who will educate and collaborate in the decision making process.
  • Want us to help manage all of their financial affairs.
  • Have family investments valued at $50,000 or more (or will have soon).
  • Do not want to manage individual stocks, but choose to rely on professional money managers, such as mutual funds or wealth management accounts. We do not trade stocks but could recommend a firm that can handle trades.
  • Want to have peace of mind regarding their personal finances.

Our Commitment To You

  • Confidentiality
  • Exceptional service - with small town warmth
  • Regular reporting and reviews
  • Current knowledge of issues that impact your personal finances:

  • For you,
through various forms of communication from us (appointments, phone calls, emails, newsletters, seminars, articles, books, etc.)

    For us,
through ongoing education, training and industry Meetings

  • A friendly and helpful approach by our team.
  • A relationship of trust and confidence. We view this as sacred, and constantly remind ourselves of our responsibility to you.

Our Three Step Process when Meeting with New Clients

  • During the initial meeting, the First Step gives you the opportunity to explain your present needs and goals for the future. We encourage you to ask questions about Independent Planning Group (Stouffville), the services we provide and how we may assist you. We appreciate that you are looking for a financial planner that you will feel comfortable working with for many years. In the case of couples, we strongly encourage both partners to attend this and subsequent meetings. We want to make sure the "fit" is right for all of us.

  • The Second Step (which often also takes place during the first meeting) is for fact-finding. We ask you to provide us with detailed information to better understand your financial situation. This confidential information is also necessary if you'd like us to proceed and produce a Financial Plan for you. See "What to Bring to the First Meeting", below.

  • The Third Step (which takes place during the second meeting) is when we present your complete Financial Plan (not just an investments plan). We discuss it carefully with you and answer any questions you may have or make any adjustments you would prefer. We agree on the written Action Plan - our guide to making decisions and working together to make your Plan a reality.

  • If necessary, we may need another meeting to finish completing new account forms and other applications. This is also the point at which we are compensated for our time. Compensation is always discussed and agreed upon between the client and the planner, prior to any transaction. (See "How We Are Paid", below).
  • We also mutually agree on regular timeframes for portfolio reviews and communication, in addition to other ongoing responsibilities, which involve you, your financial planner, as well as our support team.

How We Are Paid

We ensure that any fees paid by clients are minimized, while fairly compensating us for the value we provide. An initial meeting to determine whether our services will benefit you is always complimentary. When we decide to work together, we mutually agree upon payment in one or a combination of forms, (commissions and/or fee for service).
